久しぶりだよ.

始めましょう

It’s funny—I realized the last time I wrote here, I opened with something like “It’s been a very long time, hasn’t it?” And… well… it has been a very long time. Some things never change.

A lot has happened since then, so let me try to catch you up. I’ll probably forget half of it, but that’s tradition at this point.

一つ目のトピック…　I graduated from GENKI!

My first academic year in Japan officially wrapped up on March 13th, 2026. GENKI was chaotic, warm, encouraging, occasionally confusing—and honestly, I loved every minute of it.

I still drop by from time to time to say hello. Every visit turns into a mini Japanese exam, though. The moment I walk in, my former 先生 switch into “Let’s see how much he remembers” mode. It’s sweet… and mildly terrifying.

二つ目のトピック…　I’ve enrolled in a new school

Since April, I’ve started a new year at FFLC. And let me tell you—this place is very different from GENKI.
For starters, the classes are bigger. GENKI had eight students per class; FFLC has around twenty. The atmosphere is completely different, too.
At GENKI, with the majority of the students being from Europe or America, English was always floating around in the background. FFLC tends to accomodate more students from Asian countries. Since many of my classmates don’t share a common language besides 日本語, we end up using it for everything: class discussions, 休憩パーティー(break-time Party), even random conversations outside school. A few of us even made a pact: Japanese only, everywhere. Break the rule and you owe a (purely theoretical) fine.
(Theoretical… but you do feel a bit of shame when you have to break the rule.)

I’m incredibly lucky with my classmates. We’ve bonded quickly, and the atmosphere is genuinely fun.

Next month, though, we have another placement test. Which means classes might get shuffled. FFLC really doesn’t let you relax—once one stressful thing ends, the next one politely taps you on the shoulder.

二つ目のトピック…　Time For JLPT & Jobhunting

All of that is still a little way off. In December I’ll take a shot at the JLPT N3. Will I pass? Maybe. Will it feel like Mission Impossible? Definitely.

I’ve also been thinking about my future in Japan. I’d really like to stay for a few more years. So the next challenge is finding a job that can support a visa.
There are a few services that help foreigners with job hunting, and I’ll start looking into those soon.
